The open beta for Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 4's Blackout mode ran over the course of this weekend, giving players a chance to try out this highly contentious battle royale content before the game's release.

I gotta say I was taken by surprise here because I am both tired of battle royale games and am also not the biggest fan of twitch shooters or Call of Duty at all, for that matter. The gameplay I found here wasnt the worst of both as I expected it would be, but is instead an interesting twist on established formulas.

I am particularly excited by the inclusion of the zombies that sporadically infect the map because it means Treyarch isnt afraid to do some serious experimenting on the battegrounds formula which is good for all of us. I am going to be giving Black Ops 4 much more attention as release draws near than I had initially intended to.
