Review of “Blade and Sorcery” Official Release

The wait is finally over; “Blade and Sorcery” has launched its official version, currently available on PCVR, featuring the “Crystal Hunting” storyline.

In short, this is a game you can easily play for over 10 consecutive hours—it’s incredibly addictive! I’ve already spent several days playing it and have accumulated 14 hours in story mode. Initially, I just wanted to check if the Rift version had been updated to the full version, but I couldn’t stop playing.

The overall gameplay is extremely stress-relieving and therapeutic. It’s essentially a fighting game where the protagonist’s abilities are greatly enhanced, allowing them to effortlessly dismember enemies.

For players of varying skill levels, the use of magic makes it easy to toy with enemies.

Regarding the combat mechanics, the official version is somewhat disappointing. While the physics aspects are well-executed, the true sense of attack and defense in sword combat is better represented in the standalone version of the fighting game “Battle Talent.” For those who have only played the demo or refunded the game after a short playtime, it might be worthwhile to compare the official versions of both games.

In “Blade and Sorcery,” aside from the enemies’ armor restricting attack points, wielding a weapon and swinging it around generally eliminates nearby enemies easily due to the low AI defense capabilities and generous hit detection. However, in “Battle Talent,” random swings often result in clashing swords with the enemy, requiring precise strikes to vulnerable spots for effective attacks. Despite hearing many positive reviews about the weapon handling in “Blade and Sorcery,” the actual use of weapons feels more strategically accurate in “Battle Talent.”

Additionally, while swinging the weapon in “Blade and Sorcery,” there’s a feeling that an assist mechanism alters the swing direction, often resulting in missed headshots. Conversely, in “Battle Talent,” the weapon’s direction aligns more closely with the player’s intentions.

In terms of gameplay mechanics, the “Crystal Hunting” mode in “Blade and Sorcery” is highly engaging. Although the missions appear similar, they always offer different variations, making each adventure feel fresh and compelling, reminiscent of “Into the Radius.” However, when comparing the two games, “Into the Radius” stands out as a masterpiece, overshadowing “Blade and Sorcery,” which, despite its potential to become a classic in combat games, falls slightly short.

(It’s recommended to play “Into the Radius” before “Blade and Sorcery” to experience the true sense of awe.)

That being said, the grandeur of the scenes, the variety in gameplay, the magic upgrade system design, and the convenience of the control mechanisms all reach the top level of recent VR games.

However, I must mention the gemstone abilities. They can be activated in a small room next to your home, but it’s very sensitive to brainwave frequency, causing me to be unable to use any abilities with two gemstones. For those unsure what to do with extra gemstones, try holding two identical ones in each hand to find out.

I’ll continue to share more insights as I play the game further. Feel free to share your thoughts as well.
