Is that the Briar Armor set?!

DISCLAIMERS:

- The video shows only Ending C, or the True Ending of the game from the Wounds of Eventide DLC expansion.
- Esdras was fought in the Boss Rush mode.

I decided to remake the Blasphemous boss video from two years ago, mostly because I just wanted to do a Blasphemous boss comp of both games together and since theres apparently going to be an announcement for Blasphemous 2, it might imply something new is coming for it, so I picked a good time to do this. If they dont reveal anything for the game, then thats fine.

Its been quite a while since I last played the first Blasphemous after playing Blasphemous 2 twice and man it took a bit to get readjusted to not just the controls, but gameplay in on itself. You can tell how smooth Blasphemous 2 feels compared to this game since stuff like combat, movement and platforming are kinda clunky, but after playing a bit, i pretty much remembered how to play. Another thing is systems such as gearing and upgrading being much more different than Blas2 since in here stuff like damage increases and stuff came from Beads and Mea Culpa hearts rather than the Altarpieces and HP and Fervour being found across the land rather than having dedicated NPCs and giving items to upgrade your HP and Fervour, the flasks stayed more or less the same. The only thing Blas2 takes from this game in terms of upgrades is the weapon upgrades.

One thing I feel like this game does better than Blasphemous 2 is the overall environment, art direction, sprite art and vibe. While Blasphemous 2 has amazing art direction as well, it felt kinda light and not as atmospheric as the first game. Not to say that Blas2 did a bad job, but Blas1 just hits different. The world in this game is one filled with dread and despair thanks to the influence of the Miracle and its effects in the world, which is reflected in the visuals, sprite art as well as music.

Another thing this game did better is enemies and bosses. Theres a lot of enemy variety in this game compared to Blas2 and makes areas in here feel distinct to one another while not recycling the same enemy unit but different element. Not to say that Blas2 didnt have any enemy variety, it does, but it felt like they cut some corners. On the boss side of things, i felt like they were more memorable compared to Blas2 and more unique. Again, not to say Blas2 bosses werent bad since honestly, I like the boss battles in both games, but in terms of appearance, I liked the bosses in here better, but depends on how I feel more than anything.

On the topic of bosses, most were simple and easy with some being complex and decently challenging. Ive done a lot of playthroughs of this game and done the boss rush mode, so I pretty much knew what I was going into and plan ahead. I also learned some new strats when it came to fighting the bosses, mostly the last game bosses. I originally wanted to just use my sword and not use flasks, but later on decided to just screw it and use the rest of my arsenal instead.

And to try something new here, Im gonna mention my favorite bosses. My favorite bosses here were: Ten Piedad, Quirce, Laudes, Sierpes, DLC Crisanta and Last Son of the Miracle.

As for my overall thoughts on Blasphemous, its still an amazing game with some flaws here and there, but overall and amazing experience. Still one my all time favorite games.
