There's unavoidable fall damage in the 2nd phase of the fight..

It is possible to skip his 2nd phase if you glitch the fight or have insanely high visceral damage and poison. I tried a few times but just didn't hit hard enough. I also didn't have enough ranged damage to finish him off without dropping down.
