A very improptu video, and quite random, I only chose today to start Blue Dragon again, I've never gotten very far in it before, and I've had the game for ages, so I thought I'd give it another go. Quite early on in the game though I came across one of the things I really hate in gaming, especially in RPGs. For lack of a better term, I call them Monster Blocks.

It's simply when they put an extremely difficult or unwinnable battle or obstical in the way in order to try and make you go in the "right" direction. This one was particuarly annoying because as you see right at the start, the chest is clearly visible, taunting your noob-arse to go play with the uber bear.

This is one of the rare occasions where you can turn it around though, with some careful planning, a lot of defending and a few consumables, I managed to knock one of these down the first time I saw one. Take note that this bear is at least 10 times tougher than anything else in the same area.

I'm sure later on in the game, I could come back and make mincemeat out of these bears with ease after a couple more levels, but this was a prime example of the game developer simply being a dick, so I had to show him who was boss.

I never fought battles for the sake of levelling, however I did explore thoroughly and kept my gear, etc up to date, so if you do the same, you should be level 9-10 when you get to this part of the story (Just before you climb into the drill that takes you to the hospital ruins). And if that's the case then you should be able to take on the bear with a similar strategy, however be warned, after further exploration, I found more bears; first was a bear bundled with two other creatures (Can't remember the type, but they died quick) and then just as I thought I was going to make another exploration breakthrough, I hit an encounter with two bears at once. Another dick move, Mr Developer. I might have been able to take them out, but it would have required an immense amount of luck.

There are some really nice items on the other side of this bear, so if your party can take him on at this point in the game, then I say do it! Some really good equipment and consumables for this early in the game.

Initial thoughts on Blue Dragon are generally favourable, although the extremely anime look is yet to grow on me, and the music is So. Damn. Repetetive. The voice Acting is trash and the story hasn't really gone anywhere either, but it's still early days yet.

Hmmm, okay maybe it's not so favourable; but hey I'm still enjoying it. :P
