BMW M3 (E30) #7 DTM 1992 - Johnny Cecotto | Assetto Corsa | Replay
In round 11 of 1992 season, only Cecotto could still take the title from Mercedes-benz drivers Ludwig, Thiim or Schneider - and it was a surprise to find him second on the grid, behind pole sitter Rosberg.
But Rosberg was a team player and by pushing Cecotto to the outside of the first corner he took the lead with Schneider second, though Ludwig appeared in mid field. He was stuck behind Winkelhock for a while, but after some taps he went by.
Rosberg had to let Schneider by, so the order at the line was Schneider, Rosberg, Cecotto and Ludwig. The championship wasn’t decided yet, but Cecotto had to finish ahead of Ludwig to have any chance at all.
Cecotto had a good start, but the pressure was too much and he fell back behind Schneider and Ludwig. Mercedes held the upper hand, and thought it would be a good idea to change the order from the pit wall. Ludwig passed Schneider, Thiim retired (not part of the plan), and then Rosberg had to make way for a hollow Ludwig victory. Both Rosberg and the 41.000 strong crowd were furious.
