In order to get Coil to join your crew, I BELIEVE you have to have beaten the game first. I may be wrong, but my first time in Mataan before fighting the final boss, I did not see him in the spot he appears in for the first time.

Coil can be found very close to the Taxi station in Mataan. If you don't have the Taxi station unlocked, it is pretty close to the big golden sculpture where you fight Faux for the first time is (at the end of the strip, which can be accessed after racing Futurism so they will get rid of the green gas.

Once you head to where he is, talk to him. He won't mention like other unlockable characters, but he wants you to dance like him. open the dance radial near him and choose Housedance on the bottom right. He will start talking to you afterwards. He will mention that he will hit you up later.

I rode around for a long time and got no text until I was next to the golden sculpture at the end of the strip (where you fight Faux), so I believe this is what triggers the text to finally be sent. If you have skated around for a while and still don't get it, head there, or just head there right after dancing with Coil. If you leave where he is at, just turn right, and you will see the golden statue just ahead.

The text will mention that he is on the island in the Mataan river. This is referencing the small area in the middle of the map between the golden statue you fight Faux at, and the start of the strip. There is a small building on the "island" with an outfit collectible on top. You will see him dancing there. Jump over to the island by any means and talk to him.

He will challenge you to trick to a bridge in a single combo. This is easy, as it isn't too far, and only takes a little bit to get to the bridge. Just grind, wallride and manual your way to the bridge. Once you get onto the bridge, Coil will come talk to you, and tell you he will see you later.

I received the text from Coil when I was heading back to the start of the strip (the direction opposite the golden statue where you fight Faux). I don't know if this is time based, or if it is triggered by going in that direction, but I received the text fairly quickly. I would say to just head in that direction from the "island". If you don't get it from going that direction, just ride around until you do.

The text will mention Toy Toy Town, and that he will be on a roof near all the elephants. This took me a bit to figure out, but he is referring to the area you end up in when you chase Faux after beating him the first time. SO, head back to the big golden statue, and grind the rail that drops you into the next area.

Go uphill when you transfer to the next area, and slide under the gap in the fence at the end. Use the air vent directly ahead, and jump to the rail that leads to the next rooftop. Coil will be on the rooftop to your left once you get onto this next rooftop. Grind up a nearby lamppost, and then jump to the roof. Talk to Coil once you get up there. I HIGHLY recommend having full boost first!!

Now Coil will challenge you to a race. You will have a bunch of wallrides and vertical grinds to do before racing down a hill with a few gaps to an air vent, which will allow you to jump a big gap to a tag spot that you need to graffiti before he does. This race can be a bit difficult (it took me three tries. The third time, I made sure to have full boost, so that's why I recommend it). I would have to say this was one of the most challenging things the game threw at me, so don't get frustrated if it takes a few tries.

After racing to the tag spot and throwing down some graffiti on it before Coil does, he will talk to you, and join your crew!
