***READ BEFORE WATCHING***
This video is a compilation of LinksDarkArrows' best times in Break the Target in Super Smash Bros. Melee. He played on the NTSC version of the game, and achieves a total combined time of 3 minutes 7.6 seconds.
Everything seen in this video was done in real time, on a GameCube console.
His comments on this video are as follows:
"One thing you're going to immediately notice is how the video's quality is not consistent. These videos have been collected over the years, so as I changed my setup the quality was slightly altered.
I used an Action Replay to create the images that display the character's score. Debug Mode, to be exact. I set the game on Develop and removed the head up display for a cleaner look. Each image is a small preview of what you'll see in the video.
Two characters in this video are world records. Mewtwo and Samus. Mewtwo is tied with marth1 and Samus remains untied.
Certain characters use some obscure tricks to get faster times. Below are some details for a few of the harder to notice parts.
Dr. Mario uses an up B cancel in mid air to increase the vertical distance of his up B.
Falco uses some funky DI on the second burner hit. Forward B into the top left corner and press down twice. Once for DI and again for a fast fall.
Ice Climbers neutral B is supposed to go through the cloud and hit target 8. I don't know why this happens.
Samus uses a trick that vastly increases her vertical height. Holding up and air dodging while letting out the grapple will cause Samus to soar. This is faster than up B for the last target.
Link and Young Link's boomerangs hit targets off screen. You would not believe how many times I've been asked about that.
When you approach the burner with Jigglypuff hold L or R during the back A. It will make you slip through the burners with ease.
Mewtwo can fit inside the burner block to break target 8 faster. If you neutral A too early he'll be too big to fit, so delay your attack.
The video is titled NTSC because PAL has 3 faster characters. Kirby's dash saves a few frames, Sheik's up A is 1 frame faster and Marth has more knockback which lets you tech at target 8 for a faster ending."
