Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
A game that should really need no introduction, the Spectrum port of Bubble Bobble by Software Creations is, in most respects, an excellent conversion. Graphics are decent, colour clash a non-issue, and the music, exclusive to the 128K version, is a faithful recreation of the original. Controls can be a little finnicky at times, and there's occasional slowdown when the screen gets busy with large numbers of sprites, but it's never less than playable.
In terms of concessions, the secret rooms appear to be absent in this particular version. I didn't see any magic doors appear during this playthrough, despite not losing any lives, so I can only assume they weren't implemented due to memory constraints on the base Spectrum 48K. Their absence is mostly aesthetic, and doesn't detract from the fun factor in any particular way.
The C64 still rules the roost as the best version of the game for 8-bit microcomputers, but this a gem of a game that any Spectrum owner should have in their collection, and it's still pretty darn fun, even by today's standards.
