Anheuser-Busch put two marketing executives on leave over Bud Light’s collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney .Right, that decision sparked a ton of backlash over the past couple of weeks, primarily from conservatives. And since it’s been going on for a while now, let’s play some catch-up here. It all started when Dylan posted a video drinking Bud Light, specifically promoting a March Madness campaign the company was doing involving a $15,000 giveaway. With Bud Light also giving Dylan a customized can with a drawing of her face on it. And the backlash was not only massive, it was just unhinged. There were headlines about restaurants pulling the beer from menus and there was a larger boycott of the brand as well. As the backlash started rolling in earlier this month, the brand gave a statement to Vox noting that it partners with hundreds of influencers to connect with different demographics, and that sometimes those partnerships include special gifts, like the can it gave Dylan. So the discourse stayed alive, right we have had weeks of this to seemingly no end. Which brings us to today’s news of two marketing executives taking a leave of absence, with the first being Alissa Heinerscheid, the marketing VP for Bud Light. And the second being Daniel Blake, who, per the Wall Street Journal, “oversees marketing for An-high-ser-Busch’s mainstream brands.”With a spokeswoman telling the outlet:“Given the circumstances, Alissa has decided to take a leave of absence which we support. Daniel has also decided to take a leave of absence.” Though, the Wall Street Journal claimed that sources familiar with the matter say the decision to go on leave was not voluntary.
