An exceptional video game. Apparently my previous playtime was just a bit of 2 (not counting 3, because who cares?), and I had actually never played through the original before. I'll likely play the remake at some point as well, but we will see! The weapon variety was always a bit strange, as I ended up just not using my third weapon slot, because I felt strong enough with the Ripper and Line Gun as my full arsenal aside from the default Plasma Cutter. This did cause a bit of a scare at the final boss, as my inventory was full to bursting with ripper blades, which wasn't ideal for that fight. Made it through in one attempt regardless! The weapons in Dead Space are so memorable, even if I didn't touch a few of them. Do note that the controller controls suck for the turret section. I used a keyboard for that and nothing else.

Now for the star of the show: The sound design! I played this game set so loud, which is not my habit. The sounds of the ship creaking and falling apart, the ominous and varying whispers, the distant tinny voices of the security system, the dullness of everything but the inside of your suit when you enter a vacuum. Chef's kiss. Stupendous.

Overall, A tightly-packed and excellent gaming experience. It gave me something I'm not entirely used to; I often found myself entering a strangely zen state while playing it. A sort of anxiety-induced meditation, if that makes sense. High marks.

I also have to briefly gush about the UI choices. It's all in-world, and it's so classy. Your healthbar is along your spine on your engineer suit, along with your stasis meter. Your ammo count is shown by the weapon. The menu is an actual HUD that Isaac has to actually pull up and look at. It's stylish and elegant and I love it.
