This is not actually my first entanglement with this game; it is, by far, the single most time-consuming game I have ever met. This is not an exaggeration. I have played many the Sims games; this does not compare. I can see my entire day pass by in the blink of an eye trying to build a refinery or set up a town on realistic mode. For me, realistic mode is the only way to go. That includes setting up utilities; power; sewage; water. It isn't so hard once you try and fail the first 10 times. You can look at this as much as a tutorial as a total fuck-up. But where we mess up, we try to improve. I also build a medium and large farm, try to find iron and coal deposits, and set up some bus lines, as well as a bus end station to fix it together. It was a little difficult making every 300 and 400 meters away from each other, which is the civilian's average walking distance, but according to bbaljo, the bus stop doubles their distance, so I managed to build 2 or 3. I also wasted a few years building dirt then upgrading to gravel and extending over to the NATO border. This may have been a mistake, but I'm not trying to speedrun the game or do it perfectly. For me, getting out of the debt death spiral is where it's at. I can get more combines, tractors, fields, and maybe another distillery to combine with my already staffed distillery. The map is a custom one I found on Steam Workshop. I have quite a few mods, but this is by and large vanilla; I hardly ever use mods, except for a few instances where they may be needed, like forklifts or factory connections or pipeline-to-road connectors. For some reason, the developers didn't think to (or don't want, or can't) include these, but mods pick up the slack. Anyway, I have done quite my research, following along the words of prophet Bbaljo on his incredible journeys.
It is extremely hard, but extremely fulfilling. It isn't the best tutorial or walkthrough, but it is indeed a playthrough. Hopefully it's an entertaining failure to watch. I hope I give you a good reaction to my total fuckups.
For those coming from Factorio; don't.
side note: Kino, Lube, or any post-punk eastern-european band goes great with this. (usually soviet) Actually, music in general does, as NO OTHER GAME will take up so much time.
Bbaljo started to lose me in a few episodes, but I presume this was on my end. I will endeavor accordingly to make up for lost time and come back into the swing of things.
I did, however, make a previous video, but this was merely a test run. I have decided to come back, more reoriented and determined to get started. I might not be able to get uranium or a power plant easily or at all, but I will try to get all the research and universities built and done.
