I live in the south, and have off and on through much of my life. I've never heard the phrase "snake in the hen house", but I HAVE heard the phrases "snake in the grass" (meaning a liar/sneak/thief in a place they can't be detected) and "fox in the hen house" (meaning a liar/sneak/thief in a place where they're going to do a lot of damage). I can absolutely see where Bethany's phrase may have originated, and am frankly shocked at the number of people who claim they can't.
Given the timeline involved between her statement that spurred the accusation and the supposed target entering the conversation, combined with Bethany's explanation of why she chose the term "albino snake" (referring to a white author targeting POC authors) the accusation of abelism does not appear to have founding in my opinion, and I've chosen not to platform it here.
