191A playthrough of DTMC's 1993 Super Nintendo port of the Epyx computer game sequel, California Games II.
Played through on the default settings.
I really try to be an optimist when it comes to games. I have spent more time than I care to admit playing awful games because of a vain search to find some redeeming value in them. Well, here's one of the few that really posed the proverbial brick wall. Try as much as I might, this game is not good. It's not fun. It's not worth the plastic the cartridges required during its manufacturing run.
So why play? Probably because I'm a complete masochist that takes pride in taking down super-hard games, and that same pride doesn't let me typically stop obsessing until I've managed to figure it out and finish it off so I never have to look at it again. This was always one of those games for me.
So yeah. California Games? Awesome. This? (Insert emoji representing an airsick bag that you'd typically find in that net thing on the seat in front of you on a plane, usually tucked up against a badly distressed copy of SkyMall).
So yeah, sorry. I suppose it would be good for someone like Holden Caulfield - like, a way to legitimize a wholly cynical view of the world and its potential. I wish I had something more positive to say.
