Call of Duty 3 was probably the second best PS3 launch title available when the console hit. If you were an early PS3 adopter, and weren't much of a sports gamer, there's a good chance that you put in a ton of hours into Call of Duty 3, and Resistance Fall of man while waiting for future games to hit. Just diving into their online play alone would have kept you busy for months.

For the single player mode, it's a solid CoD single player. It still features the same storytelling style of the first two games where instead of playing through the game with one character, the story is told through the eyes of various soldiers in different campaigns.

The PS3 version adds sixaxis support which, meh, and apparently had technical issues when compared to the 360 version. Not owning the 360 version of the game, I can't really compare them to see, but I do remember CoD3's PS3 technical issues being used as ammo in the blazing hot fanboy flame war that took place during the 7th gen. Flames stoked by the strange, sensationalistic turn of the gaming media. The 7th gen was a crazy time in gaming.
