Quake II (PS1) Gameplay -No Commentary- (PC Port)
If you change the control scheme to "right stick" it allows you to move with the d-pad, and aim with the right analog stick like you would with a modern shooter. It also requires you to shoot with L1, but you adjust to it, and as you can see, it makes aiming a lot easier for modern sensibilities.
Honestly, I love the PS1 version of Quake II. It's an excellent port that really does recapture the feel of the PC original's intense combat. The N64 port is great, and gets points for having all original levels, whereas the PS1 version's levels are based off the PC original. The PS1 version, however, has that faster, in-your-face combat feel of the PC version. The N64 version has a slower, an more methodical pace to it's combat that is also engrossing, but the PS1 port captures the feel of the PC version better when it comes to the combat.
All versions of Quake II are awesome, and the PS1 port is a miraculous port of the game running off the same engine that Hammerhead used for Shadow Master on the PS1 to port a game that absolutely shouldn't be able to run in any form on the PS1. Not only does it run, it runs at 30 frames per second, and is one of the smoothest running 3D games on the system. I love Quake II on the PS1. All versions of Quake II are awesome.
