It was a few hours after sunset, and I thought I would be confined to the safety of the Skadovsk for the night. However, I got a message on my PDA that some Mercenaries were calling for help fighting Zombies. Well, that was no hurry since both were my enemies. I decided to leave the ship anyway, hoping I could arrive after the battle, kill the survivors of either side and get the loot of both. A solid plan until going up the hillside and looking at the upper road, I saw a Chimera heading my way.

Nope. Not going that way now. I retreated to the Skadovsk where I thought I could use the upper deck to track and shoot the Chimera if it was still coming my way. Of course, just shooting a Chimera makes them attack the source of the irritation. I was on the bow of the ship and the Chimera started circling the front. It got hung up on some debris and I used my grenade launcher to blast it until dead. Quick and easy. After grabbing the meat and body parts, I was outside again going up the road to the Ranger Station.

I spotted two Zombies standing outside the walled compound and took them down and found crappy loot. Slipping inside the front gate, I ducked to the left and moved around to find my first Mercenary kill. There were at least half a dozen inside there and I didn't want to get trapped. They detected me and I was in a shoot out with two of them. I got one from behind cover and then I went back out the gate and across the road and then turned around from behind the guardrail, waiting for anyone to pursue me. It didn't happen and then I saw why. A Mercenary was fighting a Bloodsucker.

As I try to look around when occupied, so I don't get surprised from behind, O caught a glimpse of some moving headlamps on the lower plain near the shack on the Docks. My scoped rifle told me it was a neutral party and my magnification saw the outline of Ecologists. This was the first allies I had seen in Zaton besides the Loners on both ships. I abandoned for now the Ranger Station action and descended down the bluff and ran and caught up with the Ecologists. They were well armed and continued down the main road now going north. I asked for a job and the Ecologist leader needed a Controller Brain. This is why I did not sell my high-end mutant parts I had started collecting and I ran back to the ship to get one that was put in my main stash. In no time I returned, got my reward from him and was soon back up the road and back to my spot by the guardrail looking in through the front gate. I could not believe what I was seeing.

There were mutants everywhere. Bloodsuckers, Snorks, Flesh, Boars and Pajama Zombies. All swarming inside with a couple of Mercenaries fighting for their life. If they had been allies, I would have run in there to help. Being enemies, I was just going to watch. Then I realized I would rather fight men than a swarm of mutants, so I started helping by shooting some mutants. Behind me I noticed the Ecologists were coming up the main road and would soon be joining me. Back to the mutant melee, it seemed the Mercs got the upper hand, so I shot one of them. Then there was that precepted shift in the weather. Something was about to happen. I look back at the Ecologists and they were gone.

I got closer to the front gate and the other Mercenary was hiding behind a truck as I tried to shoot him. It appeared all the mutants were dead and then my feeling was confirmed by the announcement of the arrival of an Emission. I knew the only location for safety was a small room inside the main building. I ran straight for it and my Mini-Map told me there was only one Merc left. I quickly got inside the small and waited for the Merc to try to force his way in. It never happened. After the Emission I went to the second floor, looked out at the grounds around me and found the now zombified Mercenary, shooting him in the head.

I looted him and then went around picking up dropped weapons and looting the wild variety of dead mutants for their meat and body parts. I looted the other Mercenary I had killed but did not find any more bodies around the various buildings. With a lot of loot, I decided to head back to the Skadovsk. I did not want to linger and meet another large squad of an enemy Faction or another mutant swarm like this. Back on the ship I had loot to process, to store and sell and get needed repairs. It was more action than I was expecting before sunrise.
