Sobek, the ancient Egyptian god of the Nile, water, fertility, and crocodiles, is depicted as a man with the head of a crocodile or as a full crocodile. Revered for his connection to the life-giving Nile River, Sobek symbolises fertility, strength, and protection. He was believed to control the waters and ensure agricultural abundance. As a fierce and protective deity, Sobek was associated with military power and the defence of Egypt. Worshipped in areas where crocodiles thrived, such as in Crocodopolis, he embodied the balance of creation and destruction, with both nurturing and terrifying aspects of nature.
