Can You Glitchlessly Complete Lud's Gate Without The Boiler Room Key? (Tomb Raider 3)
3Welcome to Lud's Gate, the third level of the London section from Tomb Raider 3.
When you complete this level without using glitches, it seems that you have to kill a gunman for the Boiler Room Key that he drops; an item which is seemingly needed for completing the level glitchlessly. If you're using glitches then you don't need the Boiler Room Key in order to complete the level as there's a glitch with the UPV which bypasses the need of the Boiler Room Key.
I was curious as to whether it might be possible to glitchlessly complete the level without needing the Boiler Room Key. The reason why I was interested is because not needing the Boiler Room Key would save you from having to kill the gunman who would otherwise be a mandatory kill. This would be crucial in a glitchless pacifist run for this game because it would result in you being able to finish the game while performing one less kill than what the current minimum is.
In the video I went to an area which you are able to reach without glitches or the Boiler Room Key. I travelled through the area until coming to a ledge. Ahead of us (and below us) is a different area which can only be reached if you are using glitches or if you've used the Boiler Room Key. If it's possible to jump from the ledge that I was standing on and grab the ledge that is ahead of us and below us then we would be able to pull up and complete the level from there. No glitches would've been needed and the Boiler Room Key wouldn't have been needed. The problem is that I didn't have any success with my attempts to make the jump.
I used a setup so that I took off at the very last moment when jumping, meaning that I was further ahead when jumping, enabling me to travel that little bit further. I also tried grabbing at specific times which can result in you springing further forwards with your jumps. I tried everything that I was able to think of but it was to no accomplishment.
My conclusion is that it probably isn't possible to glitchlessly complete Lud's Gate without the Boiler Room Key. However, I wanted to share this video so that you can see my attempts at being successful with this. Also, I'm hoping that this video might prompt other people to investigate and for that to possibly lead somewhere.
