Can You Vlog on a DJI Action 2 Using Only the Camera Module and Internal Microphone?
11So just a quick example of vlogging on a DJI Action 2 using only the camera module and the one internal microphone that's on the front of the camera module.
As far as I'm concerned this is easily good enough for doing some random and quick vlogging. Sure, you can always get a better picture using another camera, maybe even a modern GoPro. However, there is no denying that the audio quality for dialogue is pretty awesome for an internal microphone and is much better than the internal microphone quality of most other cameras. Plus, the video quality is at the very least, totally usable.
Best of all though, is the tiny size of the Action 2 camera module on its own and just how unobtrusive it is. There is 22.3GB worth of storage inside the camera module and when shooting at 4K 25FPS, the built in battery will give you around 25 minutes of record time. Now this obviously isn't a lot of record time, however, for taking quick snaps or selfie vlogs when you are out and about, this may be all you need for a simple and tiny shooting setup.
BTW. In the video you may have noticed something in the bottom left of the frame every now and then. This was actually strands of fur form the Rycote Micro Windjammer that I was using. To use the Windjammer you have trim back the fur as the wide FOV of the Action 2 will pick it up. I obviously needed to trim it back a bit more or use a narrower FOV. In any event, it's able to get got around.
As ever, the settings I use for vlogging on any camera is to be mostly automatic, or at least automatic for the exposure. The only time I would ever go manual for such things is if I were locked off or in one angle and lighting condition long enough to justify manually setting the exposure. However, when walking about and going into constantly changing lighting conditions, it's just easier to be in automatic at least for the exposure. At least that way you are not worrying about settings and you can get on with one less stress when vlogging and be a bit more spontaneous.
Here's the settings I used:
Resolution and frame rate: 4K/UHD and 25FPS
Exposure: Auto
White balance: Locked off at 5200 Kelvin
Colour: Normal (rec.709)
FOV: Standard (Dewarp)
Stabiliser: Steady
Video compression: HEVC
