Welcome to our video on Express Entry's targeted occupations: How many trades workers does Canada really need? Trades workers are in high demand in Canada, and the government is taking bold steps to address labor market gaps in this sector.

In 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has prioritized five occupational sectors through Express Entry category-based draws.

These categories include healthcare, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), transport, trades, and agriculture/agri-food.

The primary purpose of these category-based draws is to address labor market gaps in key employment sectors across Canada.

Unlike standard Express Entry draws, these new draws prioritize candidates with specific work experience in their respective categories.

Skilled trades are essential to communities across Canada, and according to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), over 256,000 new apprentices are needed in the next five years.

The Red Seal program, which sets national standards for trades, plays a crucial role in this endeavor.

The demand for trades workers is staggering. BuildForce Canada estimates that the construction industry alone needs 299,200 new workers by 2032 due to retirements.

The Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS) predicts significant job openings in trades helpers and laborers, driven by various factors.

For prospective immigrants to Canada, the opportunities in the trades sector are abundant. In 2022, trades candidates were among the top recipients of Invitations to Apply for permanent residence.
Canada's Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion emphasized the need for skilled immigrants to address the housing crisis and the construction sector's demands.
To date, IRCC has conducted one round of invitations specifically for trades workers, where 1,500 candidates were invited with a minimum CRS of 388.

Data from IRCC suggests that category-based draws for trades will continue to be a significant part of Express Entry for the foreseeable future.
In conclusion, Canada's emphasis on trades in Express Entry draws reflects the country's commitment to addressing labor market gaps and offering meaningful opportunities to prospective immigrants.
For those with skills in the trades, Canada is open for business and ready to welcome you to a land of opportunity.
