Capcom Beat 'em up Bundle showcase Part 2
Another day, another pair of games.
Knights of the Round: Despite having the medieval theme, and the level up system, I really didn't like this one. The leveling was pointless, not even cosmetic at points. It just existed to tell you "you leveled up!" and.. that was it. There was no impact on the game, and that didn't feel as good as it did in The King of Dragons. At least in that one leveling up did increase your life, and you got cosmetic increases in items each stage. There was visible progression, where as this just felt like it was all about higher score. Combine that with some very cheap boss fights, including one that would out of nowhere block your attack and then hit you with an area of effect ability, and this just wasn't that fun. Even with the mechanic of being able to ride the horse.
Warriors of Fate: At the beginning, I was worried this was just going to be a feudal Japan themed Knights of the Round. I could not have been more wrong. It has a large character select, not sure if they matter at all, but the one I picked was highly amusing. Some over the top violence in it, such as cutting people in half with a sword, or making them explode when you hit them in the head with a mace. As well as a grab where my character would just bite at the opponent with an over the top splash of blood. It was hilarious. But this game's main draw is that it felt great to play. Far less cheapness, even if there were areas where you were surrounded by enemies. The bosses would occasionally have a move that would smack you out of seemingly nowhere, however they had some good telegraphing for some attacks, and could be easily countered. Hell, you could even throw them in this if you managed a grab. The bosses felt like fighting just more powerful normal enemies, instead of cheap sponges designed to simply be quarter eaters. It was great. However, the game had a tight timer for the very end level which I did not manage to do enough damage to the final boss, and got a bad ending. Dirty pool there, Capcom. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
