I managed to save up enough to pay 100000 to the clown. He'll give you the ultimate claw, Exclaw Lobber, in return. The trick to get this much money is to grind the cockatrices, since the mushrooms they drop sell for a decent amount.
You can challenge Linky by repeatedly examining his bookshelf.

According to the enemies json file, he's at the stat cap for all stats. Even life potion spam won't be enough, since he can use powerful AOEs.
If you don't want to Reach grind, you'll need Muffins and one ninja in the party. Muffins has a chance to use a poison attack, which will hopefully inflict DOT on Linky that will deal 100000 per tick. Just note that poison can randomly remove itself on enemies for some reason. Meanwhile, the ninja should equip Shadow's Legacy and cast Intercept on as many people as possible, giving them a chance to survive Linky's physical AOEs.
Yes, this battle is really luck-based, but try to win with all characters standing so they can benefit from the EXP. I had to do several more attempts offscreen in order to get an "everyone still standing" victory.
6:08 Master Class
It turns out that when characters hit level 50, they get their master class and get their level set to 1 while keeping their level 50 stats. These classes have no real stat growth, but every level they gain adds 1 AP for the Reach allocation system, allowing stats to be distributed manually.
Unfortunately, as of writing this, Shogun is glitched so that he becomes a Master Sage instead of a Master Samurai, which would put me at a disadvantage on NG+, so I have to wait for a fix.
