0:00 Dying of Thirst
Continue north to run into a goblin, who despises humans and attacks the father. I overthought this battle and tried to spam defend in the hopes that he'll see that I come in peace, but it didn't work out. Fortunately, an old sage steps in to save the father. However, the father collapses of thirst and the sage has to carry him to a hut.
5:17 Volcano
Make your way to the NW volcano, where you'll find the sage collapsed. The father will take him to a cave to recover. From now on, the father will be known as Sir and the sage will be known as Sero.
The sage will cast a spell that allows you to float above damage terrain, but note that you will have to recast it if you touch a healing save point. Sero will warn Sir not to touch the crystal, since it activates a powerful optional boss. Make sure to equip ice weapons to Sir.
14:12 Boss: Fiend of Fire (failed)
The fiend's second tier spells can oneshot. I had to prepare offscreen for round two.
15:40 Boss: Fiend of Fire (success)
This time, I got lucky and it didn't use its most powerful spells, but it still KOed Sero, so he didn't get the EXP. While you can come back to this boss later, there's an achievement for winning with Sero in the party. Fortunately, he can be KOed for this achievement.
17:35 Kalbi Passage
This path leads back to Kalbi for some reason, but there's a Draconian officer guarding the path.
20:19 Boss: Sarai
This boss stands no chance against a party that beat the Fiend of Fire.
21:15 Kalbi Castle
Sir feels sorry for Sarai and thought she was an honorable fighter, since she was somewhat reluctant to kill the party before the battle.
Sero leaves the party, so now you lost your chance to get his achievement. However, Muffins the cat joins in his place. Muffins has terrible defense, but good speed and attack power. Unfortunately, she is also in permanent autopilot.
You can't go into the main floor of the castle, but you can go south into a new basement map that leads to a cave.

Pass through the cave to reach a beach area and make sure to talk to the fishing girl. Note that there are some trap holes that send you back to the cave.

I finally found all four key items needed to make this weapon. It has decent stats and grants a skill that buffs counterattack rate. It might be the only real status buff I have right now.

Sir reunites with the Shogun and his family, but his memory still hasn't returned. Regardless, the family is still glad he's back. His name turns out to be Lono.
You can now select party members, but there's no shared EXP, which means you'll be in for a grindfest if you want to make everyone viable. Once you rest in the bedroom to the east, the story proceeds, so don't do that yet.

I managed to win, but most of the family members are too fragile, so they died quickly.

This time, I ended the battle with all party members alive, allowing them all to get EXP.
