Getting a job in Games User Research is famously difficult. For every position there are tens of candidates (and who can blame people for wanting to play games for a living!). This talk will outline advice from Seb (who has been involved in hiring and interviewing games user researchers for 5 years at Player Research), as well as advice from key members of the #GamesUR community in Europe and North America. The talk will cover hiring processes, common mistakes made by applicants, the ideal content of a GamesUR portfolio, what to expect in a job interview for a researcher position, as well as assorted tips from researchers and managers from across the industry on both sides of the interview table.
