A last minute New Years Eve victory!!! I'm so happy to beat this classic for the first time right at the last minute. This year I beat 26 games, most of which were retro shmups that I uploaded to this channel. In addition to shmups though, I finally got through some certified NES all-time classics: Gradius, The Legend of Zelda, Contra, and finally Castlevania.

I used to think of the SNES as the best library for a Nintendo console but MAN! NES truly had some bangers. I definitely appreciate the library more in my mid 30s now that I actually have some skill and patience that I certainly didn't have from from ages 2-6ish before my big brother and I got a SNES.

It's easy to see see why this one is such a classic. I learned this game blind until I got to Frankenstein and then I looked up some playthroughs online and learned the Holy Water cheesy tricks for him and Dracula. My one critique is that those 2 bosses are so hard that it kind of makes the difficulty curve a little bit off IMO. Every playthrough I looked up did the Holy Water trick. Maybe Konami just wanted to add a puzzle element because facing them any other way seems downright frustrating af if not downright impractical.

That aside, I love it. Had a ton of fun playing it. The level 5 music in particular is so moody and awesome. It's amazing to feel the emotions Konami could evoke with such simple 8-bit chip tunes.

It's been an amazing year in my gaming life and if you're one of the 2-3 people who read this, I wish you good health and a fantastic 2024!!!!
