WARPZONE DRIFTER (PC(W)/Steam)
Version: 1.5 Redux (Nov 2019)
Achievement: 21
WARPZONE DRIFTER is a game by Walter Machado (UBERMOSH, TTV (Trip to Vinelands), etc.). It's basically a "score as many points as possible within 2 minutes" game, where you complete each (procedurally-generated) level by collecting three circular nodes... while avoiding hazards! Each level is worth 1 point... though sometimes a level will contain a bonus node, which is also worth 1 point!
Oh, and your car's accelerator is apparently stuck... and your car has no brakes. =)
So basically, you maneuver the car by drifting... which definitely takes some getting used to! When I first started playing, I spent a lot more time than I'd perhaps like to admit, driving in circles because I kept missing the same node over and over and over again. ^^;
In-game control is basically just two keys: "turn car left" and "turn car right". Which of course sounds simple, but... ^^;;
Anyway, once you get used to the drifting physics, things become, uh, somewhat more manageable. ^.^ So once you start thinking about score and ways to improve your score, the game becomes a bit more about efficient path planning (balancing speed vs. safety!) than anything else... though of course, drifting physics will still be a major factor, of course. ^^
Oh, and in case anybody was wondering, your car does have regenerating health. There's no health meter visible, but it looks like (based on what I've seen) basically, after you take some damage, if you wait a little (and don't take any additional damage), your car will regenerate back to full health! In other words, health management is basically a "don't take too much damage within too short a time" thing... which of course would be easier with a visible health meter, but once you've played enough, you should start to get a better feel for how much damage is too much! ^_^
So anyway...
WARPZONE DRIFTER is a game I've kind of thinking about recording, ever since I recorded TTV3. So when I was pondering what to record for this video... WZD was of course one of the games that almost immediately came to mind. ^_^
It'd been a couple months since the last time I'd played, though, so I decided to do some test recordings, both to make sure the game recorded okay, and to shake off the rust and get used to the game again... and on the 5th test run... this run happened. ^.^;
The run didn't start out all that promisingly (spent a lot longer on "4" than I would've liked (and eventually gave up on the bonus node!), and the run almost ended on "7" (bumping into the outer edge walls is dangerous, since it damages the car and it's not easy to tell how you'll bounce off the wall!)), but... after "7", things started going a bit smoother overall, and by the time the run ended, I'd actually managed to score 22... and almost made it to 23(!)... and since my original intent was to aim for 21... I was pretty happy with that. =)
Cavalcadence Milestone: 8 Years!
So, uh... wow. ^^;
I know at these milestones I often say that I never would've imagined reaching a milestone like this, when I first started... but that's because it's true! I mean, when I first started this channel, I basically just wanted a place to upload some Aubergine videos, so...
But now, 8 years later... the channel has over 900 videos from over 45 different games... over 230,000 views spanning over 12,000 hours... more than 35 videos with over 1000 views, and 3 videos with over 10,000 views (including one of my lyrics videos!)... and once again, I find myself thinking that I never would've imagined these numbers when I was first starting out. ^^;;
So once again, thanks to all of you, especially those of you who have been here practically since the beginning! I mean, I've basically just been posting videos of games I enjoy... but it's still definitely nice seeing that some of you are enjoying the videos as well! ^_^
Anyway, see you at the next milestone, whatever and whenever it may be!
