(CCPlays) Starting a new Campaign in a Oldie | Battlezone II: Combat Commander
Battlezone was a weird franchise. The original arcade game back in 1980 was just some generic sci-fi-y tank shooter. The PC game in 1998 invented a whole new universe about a secret Cold War and a 3-way race among US, USSR, and China for alien "bio-metal" around the solar system, only for us to meet the Scions. And Battlezone 2: Combat Commander was the sequel in 1999.
(NOTE: There was a new reboot in 2017 by Rebellion, and I've played that, but I wasn't impressed.)
I have played the 1998 game, as well as clones such as Stellar 7 (both the original 1983 and the remake) but somehow, I have never played BZ2... Until now. Let's see how well (or badly) I do...
Anyway, the plot is simple. We've been diverted to Mars as one of our bases had gone silent. Are the Scions, the baddies from the first game, back? The entire game is run first-person, either in a vehicle or out (though as you can imagine, being out of the vehicle is generally NOT a good idea, unless your vehicle is about to blow up) and issuing orders is a matter of either pointing to the item and give it number commands (like follow me) or use the function key or hot key to select items and do the same. This may be a bit weird for some people as they are used to a top-down or isometric view, but it does sort of put you more in the mood.
