CDDA Portal Storm is a fun experience. This video is again for CDDA enthusiasts.

It is described as an extremely rare and dangerous event.

Sorry for the choppy look, but I played in safe-mode, which was useful because I was raiding the portal the first time and in CDDA you can die anytime. I usually prefer fighting with safe-mode off, which makes the gameplay much smoother. I also stopped often to look at the different (inventory, map etc.) menu. I did not want to cut out the music too often, but it looks choppy.

But I had the experience with my last character that it appears every one to two weeks or so.

Here some thoughts why this might be this way:
-I played in version G, maybe there was a mistake with the RNG
-I played the "Challenge - Really Bad Day" scenario, maybe they added it to the challenge after you survive
-I played as Hitchhiker, which is an obvious reference to "The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy" in which you play a version of the main character Arthur Dent. This main character is experiencing all kind of odd and potential dangerous aventures, so regular experiences of the Portal Storm might be a hidden feature of playing Hitchhiker.

There are several tips I have that are not written in the wiki:
-It is true that you should try to go south. The rooms have shifting walls, which makes movement difficult.
-The first portal storm is not bad, but if you do not raid the Portal, it will get worse over time.
-Portal Storms might give your character pain and nightmares. Effects of nightmares are negative morale and mood, making you unable to read and having negative effects on fights. Pain and nightmares might be influenced by raiding the portal. I suspect the deeper you go in the portal dungeon, the less negative effects you will get.
-You can stay inside. Most nether monsters cannot go through closed windows, but some might noclip through walls, so be aware of those.
-The deeper you go the higher the chance might be that you take something useful with you. I got one time an item that would have helped me to survive by teleporting me into a small dungeon, but I forgot to use it in a fight (my character died to a wasp queen)
-The deeper you go the more tired you will get, until you get exhausted (which has a chance of you falling asleep). Take coffee syrup or black coke with you to prevent falling asleep while exhausted (it will still show exhausted, but you will stay awake for the time)


After raiding the Portal a few times I got the message:
You hear a deep voice saying: "ᛁᛟᚢᚱ ᛁᚾᚹᛁᛏᚨᛏᛁᛟᚾ ᛏᛟ ᚹᚨᛚᚺᚨᛚᛚᚨ ᚺᚨᛊ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᚱᛖᚹᛟᚲᛖᛞ"
After transcribing it with the help of the German wikipedia page about Runes of the elder Futhark I got:
"iour inwitation to walhalla has been rewoked"
