Welcome to a special CDP, this time featuring the new Ashened support cards that finished out the TCG World Premiere archetype in the LEDE core set. The Ashened theme consists of DARK Pyro monsters that each can be Special Summoned from the hand while you control Obsidim, the Ashened City. With such extendability comes great responsibility, as if you're not careful, you can unleash the full destruction of Veidos the Eruption Dragon of Extinction upon the game! But most of the time, you'll want that to happen. Anyways, the first wave of the Ashened theme had multiple tricks to ensure consistency, whether it is Priestess of the Ashened City to tutor any Ashened Card, Obsidim Special Summoning an Ashened monster from the Deck when destroyed, or Awakening of Veidos to tutor both Obsidim and a Level 5 or higher DARK Pyro (Veidos, King of the Ashened City, or Hero of the Ashened City). This second wave takes it even further by adding Extinguishing the Ashened, a Normal Spell that sends a DARK Pyro from the Deck to the GY, before recovering a Level 5 or higher DARK Pyro from your GY. It also doubles as a Fusion Spell from the GY, Fusion Summoning one of your two new boss monsters!
First up on the boss radar is Veidos the Dragon of Endless Darkness. This Level 10 Fusion is made with Veidos and 2 or more Level 9 or lower Pyro monsters, and it destroys all S/Ts your opponent controls on summon. Additionally, if your opponent activates a card or effect on the field, it can send any Ashened card to the GY to destroy the activated card. On the beatdown side of things, Embers of the Ashened is a Level 8 Fusion, made with any 2 Pyro monsters, that is mostly useful for recovering a Field Spell from your GY on summon. Now both of these are fine to Fusion Summon using material from your hand or field, but if you would prefer to use your opponents' monsters instead, Ashened to Endlessness lets you do just that - Fusion Summon using monsters on either field, as long as you include a Veidos! Isn't it great that Obsidim turns all your opponents' monsters Pyro during your turn?
Now that we have a full support wave, the deck has plenty of tools at its disposal, with no Ashened card being completely useless. However, I've found that it's better to include a few other side engines to ensure your deck gets the most out of the free Field Spell recovery from Embers. First up is the newly Limited Chicken Game, a Field Spell that trades 1K LP for a draw. It's especially great here, since you'll quickly end up replacing it or destroying it before your opponent has a chance to benefit from its effect as well. Second up is Trickstar Light Stage, a card that unlocks the mini-Trickstar engine that's present in the build today. This may seem like a strange engine, but hear me out - The Trickstar put extra Link Material on the board, an additional Level 4 in Trickstar Candina to make Infernal Flame Banshee, and it has Trickstar Corobane, who can destroy a defense position Veidos in battle. All of these are useful qualities to winning a duel, especially with the destructive power of the Ashened backing you. Oh, and if that's not enough, you also have an in-theme monster negate now in Rekindling the Ashened! Enjoy the blazing destruction of this new archetype, coming at you soon with the release of LEDE!
