Slight change of plans....
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin will not be on the show tonight. So, for the first time since we began doing these streams, I (Patrick) will be doing a solo show. Upon getting the news, my first thought was "What's a game I can usually beat in a couple of hours or less?" Since I'm not great at ton of games, there are really just a handful. Off the top of my head: Rygar, 3-D World Runner, Super Mario 1 & 2... Then I thought "I wonder if there's anything significant about today's date, and how might I possibly tie that into the show tonight?" When I searched, the answer fell into my lap! For on this night, 58 years ago, the late, great Muhammed Ali (then Cassius Clay) defeated Sonny Liston in seven rounds in Miami. What better way to celebrate the seminal match and moment in boxing and pop culture history than to (attempt to) play through a boxing video game I spent many hours mastering as a kid - Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! I eventually was able to complete the game on command, and in recent years, I've only finished it a few times, seeing as how I didn't practice regularly over the years. Tonight I'll be playing on an emulator, since I don't have access to my original cartridge. This means - due to lag in the emulation, it will be extremely difficult for me to get past the quicker opponents. Yep, I'm already making excuses! Oh well - it's the best I could come up with on short notice. But, I'll give it all I got! Mr. Tyson, you might just get knocked down tonight....maybe! Also, I'll continue my looooong game of Moai-kun. Maybe I can get through a level or two tonight. (Currently on level 44.) We had originally planned to check out the Canadian released Game Wave Family Entertainment System tonight. We'll hopefully get to that next week.
GAME INDEX:
1. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! 16:10
2. Moai-kun 1:27:00
3. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (PlayChoice 10) 2:37:05
