Originally released in 1984, 1942 was one of Capcom's earliest games and first hit games. It has since become one of the most popular shooters ever to fly out of the arcades. The game is based on the balance between attacking and avoiding, as enemy fighters tend to fly in formation around you. 1942 would also launch Capcom's 19XX series, the next release in which would be 1943: The Battle Of Midway. 1942 was also unique in that it was an early example of a video game adopting more serious historical subject matter.
