Should every encounter be of an appropriate challenge rating for your the player characters in your game? I was reading an article about Pathfinder and all the different editions of Dungeons and Dragons. The article was about how 3rd edition has changed players expectation of the encounters they will face while adventuring. In earlier versions of the game crafting encounters were as much art as science. You didn't always worry if the challenge rating levels were matched equally to the character levels in your game.
