Eastward tells the story of John, a mute, bearded miner who lives in the Potcrock underground slums, where he plays the guardian of Sam, a precocious girl with flowing white hair. Humanity is going through a sort of post-post-apocalypse where the surface world is seen as forbidden.

Does Eastward have a good story?
Eastward tells a lot of history through cozy slice-of-life segments. More often than not, Sam persuades John to take care of the mundane chores in his town, or help solve problems plaguing his new friends. It's adorable and the pair are a good vehicle for this, or at least Sam is.

Eastward is also particularly reminiscent of early Zelda games in several ways, from the isometric perspective to hack-and-slash combat to puzzles. Despite all these similarities, there are some key points that distinguish Eastward from his Zelda series.
