10This is me messing with the memory browser, seeing which values I can find.
We can set our amount of grenades, lives, health and trigger the invulnerability mode you get after getting hit, allowing us to bypass every obstacle and enemy.
Setting some values to get the whip and gun works too, although a bit buggy (weapon firing animation is weird..also I didn't realize you can cycle through your weapons lol)
Anyway I hope this gives some insight into how can you find some values without doing manual scans..for retro games that don't have a lot of game variables the memory browser can be a quick way to find all sorts of stuff.
