Caution: BIG PIXELS! Pixel Games UK have released a number of Atari Lynx emulated games onto Steam. This one being a Formula 1 style racer, originally from 1991. The emulation is pretty decent, and there's customisable controls, etc. You can also add a soft filter, but it does make it look like you need glasses!
There are 18 fictional tracks and a number of colour schemes for your car. You can choose manual or automatic gears and, unusually, whether you are a male or female driver. This is primarily for the post-race animations, where either a woman in a swimsuit or a man in swimming trunks(!) will kiss the winning driver!
As a Pole Position style arcade racer, there's not much to achieve here, with single race and tournament modes. Crashes are either a dead stop (hitting scenery) or a slow spin (touching another car). It's pretty basic overall, but we are talking a 1991 mobile console game! The sprite-scaling is pretty nice, at least!
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Race starts can be tricky, the slightest overlap with another car and you'll both spin out!
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:36 There's no rain here, so here's a desert track instead!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:53 The only city tracks in the game are both set at night time. And in the USA!
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:15 This isn't Spa either, but a slightly swoopy bit, a bit like Eau Rouge. No rain though.
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:34 There does seem to be some damage (see my right rear-view mirror being cracked! Bu there's no pit stops. so I bump the flag waver's tower, and he ignores me!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:46 Here I show how car-to-car collisions just result in a weird spin (pivoting on the back wheels)!
