SpeedingRoad (2021) - Every PC F1 Game
SpeedingRoad by NeedFreeMove, 2021.
This is a strange arcade game! Looking back, it released originally as an endless runner with sportscars in a retrowave traffic-dodging setting, but in early 2021 it was reprogrammed as a stunt-track time attack game with a large-tyred F1 car.
This is very built from off-the-shelf assets; each of the 3 worlds has a perfectly serviceable track on the ground, but futuristic style racetracks in the sky have been added. Your car can boost, jump and spin in any direction, like a stunt style game, but it's only relevant for some of the tracks, where the track is broken into parts to navigate between.
There's an Adventure mode and a Speeding mode; I've mostly used the time-attack Speeding mode here, as I can't work out what you're actually meant to do in the Adventure mode!
Sound is pretty awful, a catchy tune but it gets repetitive (and can't be switched off!), whilst the sound effects and engine noise are pretty basic. Handling is hit-and-miss, as your car can get caught on snags of the track, throwing you off the circuit into the air.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Here's the opening track, a relatively straightforward run to the end marker.
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:35 There's no rain in the game, but this Halloween-style track is fairly dark. Some tracks also have these energy tunnels to beam you round the track...
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:47 There are some little tunnels and a loop-the-loop on the ground of this Santa themed location, but I've stuck to this larger loop in the sky.
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:05 Here's the dark track again, this is an up-and-over sort of a track. You can see me using the flip controls, plus hitting a jaggy bit of road that stops my movement!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:23 There's no pitstops, so here I'm showing the weird Adventure mode. You seem to have to get to a point in the middle of the large glowing sphere, but it's unexplained how to. In other levels, this sphere shoots a beam to pick you up and swing you past gaps, but here, I have no idea!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:40 Finally, you can see me fall off a track here, due to the imperfect joins on the track. I'm immediately attacked by zombies and skeletons! I seem to have fallen into a different type of game!
