Path Of The Warrior game play starts at 3:42

Tonight I am checking out for the first time the new hand tracking capability that just launched for the Oculus Quest and also taking my first look at Twisted Pixels new beat em up brawler game Path of the Warrior. I had no idea that this game was coming until I got an email from Oculus telling me that it would be announced and launched tonight during the game awards.

As it is described in the Oculus press release:
Path of the Warrior is a new Oculus Studios title from Twisted Pixel heavily inspired by games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage. It’s an old-school beat ‘em up with classic brawler moves, re-imagined in VR exclusively for Oculus Quest: the plot is light, the action is heavy and the environments are completely interactive.

Overall the game is exactly what you expect in the fact that it is an arcade style brawler with very little depth other than trying to beat up all of the D-bags in your way to get to the next level. I feel like Twisted Pixel really took a page from Drunken Bar Fight with this one and added level progression to it. The environments are cool and the animated style looks good on the Quest and Rift S and there are many items you can grab to take out your enemies with. Again it really felt like a somewhat more polished Drunken Bar Fight without the full body kinematics and rag doll physics.

Overall I would say if you were a fan of the old arcade style brawlers then this game will appeal to you or if you just really want to get in and punch stuff after a crappy day then this one will be right up your alley, but I already got bored with it after only a few levels and was ready to put it back on the shelf.

Another redeeming aspect of Path of the Warrior could be in its use for VR fitness.. I will admit that after only a few levels I was for sure feeling the burn and breathing heavy.... As some of you know I lost almost 50lbs last year doing the VR fitness series on my channel and if you were interested in that I am happy to say it will be coming back shortly after the first of the year and I may revisit this title again then.

Also sorry for the constant Guardian pop ups on the screen... I'm a bit rusty when it comes to recording Quest videos and forget to turn off the Guardian System before filming this.... Admittedly I just didn't want to have to re-record it so I just went with what I had... I will remember to shut it off for the next time! []-(
