Think Rust in space. There is a warning that it's still in early access so it might have some bugs left, I didn't experience any.
This is the sort of game I like but while it doesn't (yet?) have PVE you might want to start out in a low populated server, other players are often your biggest threat.
Collect ore rocks, craft your first gun, shoot spiders to get flops (credits), then you can buy schematics to build a base and you off!
Like Rust where you are restricted to an island, here you are restricted to the zones around the abandoned Mars colony facilities. This centralises things and makes the game more dynamic.
There is apparently a problem, that I didn't experience, of people camping by the spawn point and plucking off the new players. Maybe random spawn points like Rust or just larger spawn zones like ARK might solve this problem if implemented.
In the video I skip the intros and jump straight into the game play for you. I had played a little but begin in the video with no equipment, apart from the portable 3D printer, and no character upgrades or schematics.
