White: Matthew Doucette
Black: Chess 88 v2.0 [Level 3]
Result: 1-0 (white wins)

Me playing Chess 88 v2.0 at look ahead level 3, via DOSBox.

A poor game by myself, just showing I can win quickly. I lose a pawn off the beginning, unintentionally, having fun with it. I figured I could beat Chess 88 in the end game even without being in a winning position. I somewhat pushed this to the limits in this game, and was lucky Chess 88 cared more about saving pawns than queening them. If the engine could have seen far enough ahead, it would have sacrificed all its pawns to queen just one.

Chess 88 (CHESS88) was developed by Don Berg. I had version 2.0 as a child, the version I am playing here. It was the first computer chess program I ever beat. My brother, Jason Doucette, has found versions as high as 4.1 on the internet. Version 2.0 allows look ahead levels from 1 to 6, and version 4.1 allows level 1 to 5.

DOSBox is an x86 emulator with DOS, and I optimized it to play faster than default settings:
