Chess 88 (CHESS88) was developed by Don Berg. I had version 2.0 as a child, the version I am playing here. It was the first computer chess program I ever beat. My brother, Jason Doucette, has found versions as high as 4.1 on the internet. Version 2.0 allows look ahead levels from 1 to 6, and version 4.1 allows level 1 to 5.
DOSBox is an x86 emulator with DOS, and I optimized it to play faster than default settings:
