extreme right represents ones digit.

You can see that by putting a dot between the ones digit and the tenth part,
we realise that to the left of this lies the ones, tens, hundreds.... position and to the
other side lies the tenth part.
It is advisable to note here that the part which is to the left of the dot representing ones, tens, hundreds... position is actually a whole number and the tenth
part is a part of a whole.
This shows that the dot seperates the whole number from the part of a
whole.
This dot is known as the decimal point.
You have also seen that the '1' which lies to the right of the decimal point is a
tenth part of one
