Defense of the Ancients, more popularly known as DotA, started out as a mod for WarCraft 3: Reign of Chaos, later updated with the release of the game's expansion pack The Frozen Throne. DotA's massive popularity led to the rise of the MOBA - Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas in which players take control of heroes to fight their way into an opposing base and smash everything in sight.
