The Atari 8-bit version of Choplifter is slighlty disappointing after the Apple II version. The gameplay is still great, but it does not seem to use the advanced graphics and sound capabilities of the Atari platform. The color selection makes the game look worse than the Apple II. I can only wonder why dark purple and pink was used instead of black and white. for the sky and the helicopter. My second problem is the slowdown, which is surprising due to the sprite capabilities of the Atari. Third, there is really no good music nor advanced sounds. Compared to Star Raiders of Jumbo Jet Lander this is a disappointing game for the platform, the only saving grace is its addictive and unique gameplay.
