Fans of my channel may remember I did a GameBoy Advent Countdown a couple of years back & a Jagvent Calendar last year - a different mystery game each day of December. I thought I'd do something a similar this year for the Sega Master System - a console I have lots of fond memories of.
I won't reveal the game in the Title but in the Description.......well that's a different matter. Does anyone other than me actually read them?
This is Master Games 1. This was the equivalent on Master System to the Mega Games Compilations on Megadrive - however while there were several of those this was the only Master Games - sadly they didn't do a Master Games 2 & 3.
The back of the box is so lovely "Congratulations on your purchase of a SEGA Master System. We hope this Master Games cartridge will give you many hours of fun and give you a great start to your games collection"
The 3 games are an interesting mix. Super Monaco GP is a really good racing game - although I play it terribly here so you might not believe that!
The game requires you to drive more like n F1 driver - i.e. fast on the straights & slowing right down for corners. If you use the gears properly (unlike my play here) then you shift up & down the gears at the right time to take the corners at the right speed. It's fairly addictive - I got good at this back in the day but I've not played this for a couple of decades so I'm a little rusty!
Columns is Columns & this is a really nice version/port of it. I demo a quick play - usually I'm more considered in my approach.
World Soccer (also known somewhat optimistically as Great Football)is an odd one. It moves like an LCD game - essentially fairly staccato like everything is to a beat. You can only pass when you have the ball to feet (similar to Kick Off)It has some nice touches such as each team's national anthem when selected. It's also very realistic. I played as England (Great Britain here which implies an Olympic tournament) vs France. Was all over hem and then hey go 1 nil up with their first shot. Claw it back to 1-1 only to blow the penalty shoot out. As I say - very realistic :-)
So a mixed bag but all 3 games are 2 player so there is fun to be had! Super Monaco really is better than I show here - I just prefer arcade style racers.
This is my original PAL copy from back in the day played through a Powerbase convertor on my CDX/MultiMega through a Retrotink 5X for ease of capture.
Expect a different Master System game every day. Happy Christmas!
