Fans of my channel may remember I did a GameBoy Advent Countdown a couple of years back & a Jagvent Calendar last year - a different mystery game each day of December. I thought I'd do something a similar this year for the Sega Master System - a console I have lots of fond memories of.
I won't reveal the game in the Title but in the Description.......well that's a different matter. Does anyone other than me actually read them?
This is Operation Wolf - a port of Taito's super successful arcade game. It looked like a light-gun game as it had two large Uzi style guns on the cabinet but I believe these were actually effectively elaborate joysticks.
This is an excellent port - in fact Taito did a good job supporting the system through-out its lifespan bringing many of their arcade hits to the platform usually with great results. This port allows you to play with either the Phaser or a regular controller. I use the regular controller to make capture easier.
Also the game sometimes has additional between level stages. These seem to happen randomly but you'll get a text alert of "You've been detected by the enemy" So you have to defeat a wave on enemies on a static background. Do so & the game then takes you to the next proper level. So it has a little variety on any given play-through. Biggest challenge is managing your ammo especially as it doesn't replenish between stages although you do get continues. As a port it really captures the arcade look & feel - there is some sprite flicker when the screen gets busy but nothing too bad. It's another fun Master System game & worth checking out.

This is my original PAL copy from back in the day played through a Powerbase convertor on my CDX/MultiMega through a Retrotink 5X for ease of capture.
