Little was known about Chrollo's background until the recent chapters of Hunter x Hunter. Four years prior to the beginning of the main story, they came to the village of the Kurta clan in Lukso Province, slaughtered all of them but one and took their Scarlet Eyes. One year later, he had a confrontation with Silva Zoldyck, an infamous assassin who killed an unnamed member #8 of the Phantom Troupe for work. The details of the confrontation however remain largely unknown.

Phinks begrudgingly helping Sarasa
Lisores announces that there will be a special screening at the church and welcomes many of the children with snacks. As Chrollo helps hand them out, Uvogin suddenly appears behind him and says that he hears he's putting his video to good use, menacingly adding that he's looking forward to after the screening. Phinks and Feitan then approach Chrollo, with the former saying that they should play soccer together if he survives his meeting with Uvogin. Phinks is left confused when Sarasa holds a bowl of snacks near his face, and she asks him to help hand them out.
Phinks angrily wonders why he has to help, but when Lisores looks in his direction and Sarasa continues to hold up the bowl, Phinks quickly takes it and tells the rejoicing children to get their snacks if they haven't taken any. Sarasa gives Chrollo two thumbs-up and tells him that Phinks has a gentle heart, adding that she will take care of Uvogin too. Sheila tells Chrollo that he's everyone's "little brother" while the youngest (Sarasa) has to protect him. Chrollo is left embarrassed, and Pakunoda tells him that it's the way it should be. She points out that he brings flowers to the church every day for the graves and says that she likes him just the way he is, with Chrollo thanking her.

Inside the church, while he sets up the projector, Lisores tells the children to take their seats and wait until the screening starts. After the lights dim and the video starts, the audience cheers when they see the Power Cleaners. They are then left confused when the characters begin talking in their own language, realizing that someone must have redone the voices. Shalnark says that it sounds like Chrollo and Pakunoda, and Franklin replies that he knew the two of them were up to something. As the audience laughs at the scene where two female members having an argument over a guy while the obese, male one nervously tries to calm them down, the four children wait backstage and are happy that the dub is a hit. Chrollo praises the three girls and their timing, but Pakunoda says that he was more amazing since he voiced every male character and gave them all unique voices.
However, the sound suddenly cuts off before the video stops as well, leaving the audience disappointed. Backstage, Chrollo asks Lisores what the problem is, and he explains that the sound tape is tangled up, saying that while they could cut it to fix the problem, it would take a while. In the audience, one child wonders if it's broken, and another points out that it's to be expected in Meteor City since they only receive junk. After Chrollo asks Lisores for the microphone, Uvogin yells from the back of the auditorium and wonders if Chrollo has nothing else to play, with Machi kicking him and telling him to be quiet. Chrollo lightens the mood by saying that he thought there was a break and he ended up in the bathroom after eating too many snacks. He then uses the voice of the Yellow Cleaner, and the children can't believe that someone their age did the voice. He seamlessly switches between the voices of the Blue, Red, and Green Cleaners as well as the monsters, leaving even Uvogin surprised that he voiced so many characters.

Slowly raising his hand to silence them, Chrollo holds up three fingers and excitedly asks the audience for a countdown.
