Chromagun is a first person puzzler game similar to many such games available on Steam like Portal series, Magnetic: Cage close, Q.U.B.E, etc. You have a paint gun which you have to shoot at droids and walls and combining these two actions you’ll have to trigger switches which open doors to the next level.

Graphics:

The graphics are run of the mill average. Nothing too fancy, the levels are mostly white with little color. This makes sense because the whole game is about coloring the wall panels and the puzzles are based on coloring them correctly, so a white background is the ideal in this case. There aren’t too many graphics options in the game. The game is locked at 60 FPS but I noticed no slowdowns or dips in FPS. The game also features colorblind mode so that’s always a positive.

Sound:

The game has very slow and relaxing music. The sound effects can be a bit annoying though. The narration is very well done in this game. I was quite impressed with the narrator. It has funny humor as narration just like Portal.

Gameplay:

Your main Chromagun can shoot paint in 3 colors, yellow, blue and red. You can combine these colors to make purple, green and orange i.e. yellow and red will make orange etc. You have to go through bunch of tests and unlock doors to open new levels. To open doors there are switches in each level. There can be more than one switch and more than one door as well. The switches correspond to their respective doors and this is represented by a wire on the ground which is color coded. So if you see a purple wire going out from a switch you just follow it and it’ll tell you which door this switch will open.

To activate switches you have to get these droids to move on top of them. You can paint the droids and certain types of wall panels. The droid will be attracted to the same colored wall panel and if there are 2 or more of the same color wall panels, the droid will stay in the middle of these. E.G if there are 5 panels of blue colors right next to each other, the blue painted droid will go to the wall and stand in front of the 3rd blue wall panel. If the number is even, the droid will stay in-between the 3rd and 4th panel.

There are 2 types of droids, normal ones and spiked ones. The normal ones don’t move unless you paint a wall near them with the same color they are. The spiked ones however, once you paint them, they get triggered and they follow you around and hurt you and eventually kill you. This can be stopped by luring them next to the wall that is same color as these droids. So, you have to make use of this to solve puzzles.

A short gameplay video can be found below:

Graphics:6/10
Sound:7/10
Gameplay:7/10
Overall:7/10

Conclusion:

If you’re into first person puzzle games similar to Portal, Q.U.B.E, Magnetic: Cage closed etc. then this game is right up your alley. It’s got enough content for its price and in my opinion and should keep you entertained for 4-5 hours easily. If you think that’s not enough you can always wait for the next big sale and pick it up. The game has some awesome narration as well which can be entertaining.
