Part 17: Cyrus’ Spirit & Ozzie’s Fort
If you have caught up where I’m at then you are at the endgame. It’s at this point you have 3 options: go straight to Lavos, head for the Black Omen or take part in side quests to get you all ready for the endgame. Guess what we choose?
There are a series of side quests you can do in any order you want. Doing them will net your party members with a lot of rewards and upgrades that can help at the very end when we do the Black Omen.
Here’s the order I’ll be doing them: Cyrus’ Spirit, Ozzie’s Fort, The Sun Stone, Geno Dome, Rainbow Shell, Sunken Desert, Lost Sanctum and finally Black Omen.
We start with Cyrus’ Spirit. For this, we head south east to the town of Choras. Up north is a place called Northern Ruins. If you go in the present, you’ll have to contend with Cyrus’s spirit. So instead let’s head to 600AD in the past. Go to the Tavern to meet up with two people: a carpenter and Toma. Toma carries importance but for the carpenter, he says his tools are missing. Head for the ruins and you’ll find ghost knight enemies. They’re weak to Fire so if you have Magus, he can wipe them out without much effort.
Afterwards head out and head to the present. Go to the Tavern to meet a Carpenter who’s slacking off. Head southwest to a Residence to speak with his wife and she’ll give you the Carpenter’s Tools. Head back to 600 AD into the Tavern and give the guy the Tools. Head to the southwest house to talk to him and he’ll get his men to work on the Northern Ruins.
Head for the ruins to find that they only worked what they could. It means one thing, you need to clear the area full of monsters. Expect to do this twice. After you do so, head out, speak to the Carpenter and he’ll say that he can fix up the ruins for a price: 2000 gil. Give him the money to repair the ruins. The first time is when they fix the path upstairs and the second is downstairs. For upstairs, clear out the monsters. After you do, head back and repeat the process. This time head downstairs and you’ll find a gravestone belonging to Cyrus. Some scenes occur and they are very good scenes but it culminates with Frog knowing that he may not be as good as Cyrus but now he must learn to move on from what happened. The Masamune is powered up making it stronger than before. Afterwards head upstairs twice and then take out the remaining monsters.
Remember those black chests we saw. If you are in 600 AD, inspect them but DO NOT open any of them! There’s a reason for that. Head to 1000 AD and check the chest again. You’ll find that the treasure inside has been upgraded. Make sure you inspect them first at 600 AD but not open them. Then head to 1000 AD and then open them. You’ll get some sweet rewards.
Next up is Ozzie’s Fort and you should have Magus in your party. Head to 600 AD and fly to a fort east of Magus’ Keep. Be sure to have Ayla with you. Enter the fort and Ozzie greets you only to freak out when Magus is there. He’ll send out Flea to deal with us. Not hard. Later on Ozzie sends out Slash. Still not hard. Before you head to the boss fight, explore the wall south of the stairs to find a hidden passage. Inside is a horde of goods for Magus such as the Gloom Cape, Gloom Helm and Doom Scythe.
Heal up afterwards and this is where the true fight begins. You will face off against Diva Flea (Flea Plus), Super Slash and Great Ozzie. The three can really wipe you out if you are careless since they spam Delta Force and Evil Impulse. Use Ayla to charm each of the three generals. You’ll net Flea Bustier, Slasher II and Ozzie Pants from them. Focus on Flea. Yeah, that’s all there is. Defeat one of them to end the fight.
Afterwards, get the treasure and head up to find Ozzie cornered. A boss fight happens except it’s not really. You can charm him for another Ozzie Pants. Just hit the switch and you go down a floor. After that head up and Ozzie will get some well deserved karma. That concludes the Ozzie's Fort quest.
This takes care of the first two side quests. Part 18 is where we continue forth with Sun Stone and the Geno Dome.
