Recap: Bringing the news of Crono's death to the old man at the End of Time, the party finds out that he's Gaspar, the Guru of Time, he gives them an invention of his called the Chrono Trigger, an egg that has the potential to change the course of history under the right circumstances. Gaspar directs them to Belthasar for more information, who tells them that the power to restore life can be found at the top of Death Peak. The person must be important to the time stream, and they must have a clone identical to the person for it to work. As it happens, a doll of Crono's likeness was won at the Millenial Fair, which should serve as an acceptable substitute.

Being that Death Peak is the seat of Lavos's power in the future, the party ends up battling several of his offspring on the way up, formidable opponents even in infancy. At the peak, the Time Egg shatters and an eclipse happens. They find themselves frozen in time at the moment Lavos had killed Crono, and are able to swap the doll for Crono and bring him back.

With Crono's triumphant return, the party begins final preparations for a confrontation with Lavos on their own terms. Gaspar shares some glimpses he's had of times and places where they might seek empowerment. Following a lead, the party is able to retrieve a Moon Stone in the future, bringing it all the way back in time to a location where the sun always shines, and retrieve it all the way in the future where it's absorbed the sun power and become a Sun Stone. Lucca is able to use it to manufacture a new gun and some other equipment.
